First free-to-play console first-person shooter (FPS) videogame

Sci-fi shooter DUST 514 (CCP Games, 2012) is the first free-to-play console FPS. The first-person shooter videogame is freely available to download from the PlayStation Store, as of September 2012, although virtual items and boosters can be purchased to augment the game.
Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony have long resisted F2P on their hardware, preferring a more traditional model requiring players to pay upfront. But now Sony have blazed a trail that many believe signals the future of console gaming.
